SHORT HISTORY
    Vision | Mission | Task | Focus | Strategy

It was the obedient Missionary adventure of Brother Bowen in 1850, when he headed for Central Africa, with the town of Igboho specifically in his mind that resulted in what we now call the Nigerian Baptist Convention, with over 7, 000 Churches, 400 Association, 24 Conferences and about 3 million Baptist. That humble beginning undoubtedly has given rise to great achievement in our Convention to the glory of God Almighty.
In the same vain, it was the obedient decision of the messengers at the fortieth session of the Nigerian Baptist Convention at Jos in 1953, which resulted in what was up to April 1998 known as Home and Foreign Mission Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
According to the Conventions' Constitution, the department was saddled with the following responsibilities
  1. To awaken Baptist family members to their responsibility for spreading the gospel message in the Nigeria and beyond.
  2. To direct the energy of the Convention in propagating the gospel at home and abroad.
  3. To recommend ways and means of financing the Mission enterprise.
  4. To recruit suitable volunteers for mission work in co-operation with the Ministerial Board.

At the 85th Annual Session of the Nigerian Baptist Convention in the same Jos, in 1998, another decision was taken to grant the Home and Foreign Missions Board autonomy and to give it a new name, Global Missions Board, the Mission agency of the Nigerian Baptist Convention. This decision has enable and resulted to the present growth of the Board with 16 Home Mission fields and 8 International Mission fields both in Africa and abroad. There are about 18 Missionary couples fully engaged and faithfully serving God to reach many for Him.
The Board is run under the leadership of a Board chairman, a secretary who is the Director of the Board and able Board members representing various departments in the Convention.
The service arm of the Board is divided into Divisions with a coordinator responsible to the Director.
